How to Use Gamification to Improve Your App – Part II
Want to know the last 3 points to have in mind when developing a gamification strategy in your app? Read the second part of the article! Posted onby ExaudIn my last article, I explained what gamification is and listed 3 points to take into consideration when improving your app using it.
Just to remind you, gamification is the dynamic that boosts your app using gaming strategies which will lead to increase the user engagement. Today, I will explain you the last 3 things to keep in mind when using gamification. Check below.
4 – Provide rewards
Accomplishments should be rewarded. Positive feedback provided by the app for completing tasks is essential. We all assume that when we participate in a game, we will be rewarded if we win. That’s the core point in gamification. The app user expects to be rewarded after accomplishes something and, it is the feeling of satisfaction and victory that engage the user. Even more, if these rewards are given throughout the app levels, in form of certain checkpoints or milestones.
Although you have to pay attention to the type of rewards your users want and need. You have to keep them motivated to achieve the next level and take the reward. The point is that rewards should provide some value for the user.
Such rewards may include: unlocking new features or level, acquiring a new status, for example, a Silver or Gold member, VIP status, or even a large range of badges, some of which are limited in number.
5 – Social platforms
When it comes to gamifying, social sharing platforms are almost mandatory. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. add value when integrated into your app.
The recognition of the effort, dedication an achievement is one of the key points for the app user. That exhibition behavior helps to create awareness around the app, not only for new customers, as well as retaining and further engaging the ones already present.
But be aware, all the challenges, goals, and rewards may be perceived variously and defy the established social norms and become your biggest win or loss. Some goals may backlash, they might somehow give the possibility of being “forced to engage”, as explained in the next point.
6 – Freedom
Give users the freedom of option and avoid punishments which can lead to demotivation. You have to make users believe that they are part of the app and that they are doing what they want and not what you are driving them to do.
People feel motivated when they feel that are in charge or have the freedom to make decisions. Keep user reviews and feedback checking regularly, those might help hugely and, update and optimize your gaming strategy based on these inputs. UX is the main focus here.
Last thoughts!
Now, you have an idea in how to gamify your app in the most valuable and profitable way. While it sounds like a secure marketing strategy, be aware that it can backfire if not implemented right
Always remember that the first thing to do is to evaluate whether your app
is appropriate for introducing a gaming strategy. Without proper planning,
gamifying an app can became in a total disaster.
