Get to know Márcio, a Junior Software Developer at Exaud! Discover his background, daily routine, productivity tricks, thoughts on video game skills, and his dream career from hobbies.

Could you tell us a bit about your background and role at Exaud, and what do you enjoy most about it?

Ever since I got my first computer, I’ve been passionate about video games. This passion led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Digital Games Development and Engineering. The program was quite similar to a typical bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, but with some distinctive classes focused on game creation and design, such as 3D programming, 3D modeling, and game engines. However, I didn’t feel that my itch for programming was fully satisfied, so I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Computer Science with a focus on Application Engineering and Distributed Systems. That’s when I fell in love with creating applications and decided to pursue it professionally. Currently, as a Junior Software Developer at Exaud, I am delighted to work in various areas of software development, exploring and learning more about it.

Can you share a brief overview of your typical day and the tasks you handle?

In a typical day, I kickstart it with a meeting with clients, providing updates on the progress made the day before and ensuring alignment on current tasks. Following that, I engage with my internal team to discuss plans for the day, aligning our objectives and priorities. The bulk of my day is then dedicated to coding and development work.

Is there a specific routine or habit that has positively impacted your productivity at work?

I’d have to say that starting my day with a gym session is the best habit I have. I love having that time for myself while listening to a new album on Spotify. It also gets my brain fired up and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at me. Plus, it makes me more conscious of time management and helps me work efficiently.

In a parallel universe where your job is entirely different, what do you think you’d be doing for a living?

This is a question I ask myself all the time, and I think everyone does to some degree. I never seem to have the same answer. I prefer to think of it as many branches from a tree that I can pick from my everyday likings and interests. I’ve imagined myself being a painter/sculptor with my atelier, an Olympic swimmer, in a band playing a handful of instruments, or a professional dancer.

If you were a character in a video game based on our team, what special skills or abilities would you have?

There are a lot of good options, but I would have to pick the powers from The Flash. Whenever I needed to learn or search for anything, I’d do it super fast and without wasting time (at least to the perception of everyone else). Plus, when work was done, I could just walk anywhere in the world and relax for a bit.

If you could turn one of your hobbies into a professional career, which hobby would it be and why?

If I could turn one of my hobbies into a professional career, I’d lean towards something in the realm of filmmaking or movie critique. I’ve always been drawn to the power of storytelling in movies. There’s something about how a great film can transport you or make you think differently. I’ve spent a lot of time delving into movies, understanding what makes them tick – the cinematography, the storytelling techniques, all of it. The idea of making a career out of creating these stories or analyzing them professionally would feel like a dream.
