Meet Sérgio Gonzalez – the young developer shares his love for Information Security, pizza and the best magical place to relax, The Shire.

Tell us a bit about yourself and why did you become a developer.

Early-on, before I enrolled in a programming course, I took interest in the Python programming language and quickly realised how much potential to build and create there is in software. I also noticed that it can cause tremendous headaches! Nevertheless, the challenge and fun in this subject had me join a software-oriented course in University of Aveiro and I haven’t looked back since. During the course, there were various subjects that I took special interest in, mainly Mobile App Development, Artificial Intelligence and Information Security. Since then, I’ve enrolled in a security-oriented course in Porto while I work at Exaud, and It’s all being a lot of fun.

What is your greatest strength?

I probably have to go with being able to overcome obstacles. I wouldn’t be able to be a coder If I stopped at the first bug I encounter! In a non-programming setting though, I try to never let inconveniences stop me from reaching a goal.

What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting a career as a developer?

Make sure to check documentation and it’s always nice to have another pair of eyes take a look at your code. Sometimes that might just be what solves a problem that you’ve been struggling with for ages! Also, never be satisfied and done with learning, the cool thing about programming is there’s always more, and the more you know the better you are at it.

What do you do when you are outside Exaud?

Well since my life mostly passed in front of screens, during the free time I get I always try to go for a more “analog” setting. For example I enjoy playing Basketball, walking my dogs, and reading books every now and then. If that’s just not possible playing a PC video game is always enjoyable.

Fun Facts:

What fictional place would you most like to go?

The Shire, Middle-Earth. Sounds like a relaxing place to make a trip to.

If you could go on vacation for a month and money wasn’t an issue, where you’d go?

Normandy, France.

If you were allowed to only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Pizza. I can switch around ingredients as much as I want.

Working at Exaud is more than just a job. Want to come along for the ride? We’re always looking for great people to join us. Check our current openings here and meet other members of Exaud’s team.
