Introducing Our Team – Meet Tiago Fonseca

We’re excited to introduce our junior software developer Tiago Fonseca: a football manager expert with a taste for adventure! Posted onby Exaud

This week, we’ll be introducing Tiago Fonseca – the outgoing and hard working developer, tells us all about his love for cats, travelling and the amount of time he spends on Football Manager.

Tell us a bit about yourself and why did you become a developer.

I consider myself a completely normal guy, a peaceful, comprehensive and quiet person ( at least when I am not in a very familiar and informal environment). If that’s the case, I’m a very sociable and genuine person, constantly talking and trying to make people laugh. I’m a dreamer who can’t keep his feet on the ground sometimes. If you give me a nail, a hammer and a plank of wood, I’ll immediately start thinking about what I’m going to build and how I’ll be able to get more planks and nails to turn it into something bigger.
Nowadays, I still don’t quite understand how I became a developer. If you asked me back when I was a teenager, what I intended to do, I’d say something related to economics, management or politics, which has nothing to do with computer science. But I’ve always liked computers and games, so when I went to college, a turnaround happened and I chose to study computer engineering, where I learned all about programming and ended up enjoying it and that’s what I intend to do at the moment and in years to come.

What is your greatest strength?

I really don’t know what my strength is, maybe on a personal level, in my everyday life, is the fact that I am a comprehensive and peaceful person. Sometimes I can be so comprehensive and peaceful it annoys people. To give you an idea, at the moment, I can’t recall anything that bothers or annoys me.
On a professional level, well, I had to sacrifice myself a little to get to study at university, since besides studying, I worked part time, so I think my desire to thrive and achieve something better without hesitating to do some sacrifices along the way might be, perhaps, my biggest strength.

What do you think will be the biggest trend/news in Android in 2020?

This is a question I can’t really answer. Google is a little box of surprises able to ‘wow’ us every year. It already surprised us by announcing Kotlin as their official language, realising some libraries that revolutionise the world of programming for Android, so who knows what awaits us in 2020? Big things, certainly.

What do you do when you are outside Exaud?

I love to hang out with friends, have fun with them and even when I’m by myself. I love cats and that is why I have so many! I like to spend a lot of time playing with them. I also enjoy being around my family whenever possible. Besides all of those, I love movies, watching series and playing computer games and by computer games, I mean, only one computer game: Football Manager. I’m very addicted to this game and have almost 3000 hours registered on Steam in this game alone!  Every once in a while, I like to explore some new tools and technologies, but that’s only when I’m not feeling lazy.

Fun Facts:

What fictional place would you most like to go?

Honestly, I would like to be in the world of The 100. I am a diehard fan of this series and  the possibility of living the world’s reconstruction with technology and trivial things also is something that I think is quite intriguing and interesting. I could test my personality as well as my adventurous spirit and still live a great adventure as it is represented in this series. The fact that the important thing is to survive, makes this series intense and enjoyable, it doesn’t matter what material possessions one has (well, it matters who has the most weapons, but maybe that’s the only thing that really matters), nor the money, just the personality of each person and their personal relationships.

What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?

It’s impossible to choose just one. I love trips to the mountains and explore it as well as practicing mountain sports like slide, climbing or hiking. I feel at peace there. And of course, I love camping! On the other hand, I’d also enjoy doing something more elaborated: join some friends, rent a caravan and simply explore some country’s coastal area, visit and swim on any beach or pool we’d might find, and get to meet every place that would show up on the way. These are the type of adventures I’d love to see myself taking part of, and I’d always be available to explore different places around the world.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I don’t sleep much already but if I really couldn’t sleep, I would spend more time with my friends and family, exercise more (actually, I’m not sure if I’d do it because I’m lazy), travel and chilling around. Of course I’d watch way more movies and series besides learning more skills and explore programming. I’ll admit I’d try to reach another 3000 hours on Football Manager as well!
