We’re happy to introduce our new member, João Tavares. He’s fresh out of University and has joined our software development team for a nine-month internship. We sat down for a short interview to get to know him better.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and what’s your story?
I come from a small town called Vale de Cambra, in the Aveiro district. When I was 18 I moved to Braga to study at University of Minho. I lived there for the last 4 years and have recently finished my major in Informatics Engineering.
Why did you apply for an internship at Exaud?
While searching for open positions I saw that Exaud was looking for a “Junior Java Developer” and thought it was a good opportunity. Some time after applying I got a first interview and that’s when I got even more interested in Exaud. The company is working on some really cool projects and I will be able to learn and work on Android (a skill that I believe it’s a must have nowadays). Also, the work environment seems to be very relaxed and friendly.

Why did you pick a major in Informatics?
Looking back, at the time I had to choose a major, I think I was just a kid with a huge interest in technology, specially computers. I have two brothers that also share my passion for technology so I had contact with this environment from a young age. I’m also a huge fan of video games – I’ve been playing forever and one of my dreams is to create a game of my own. That’s one of the marvellous aspects of this area, we almost have no boundaries to what we can do. With my love for technology and my urge to create I had to go for this major.

What previous experience do you have that will be important to your work here?
I believe that all that I’ve learned during my time at University will be handy for what I’ll need to do. Since I’ll be working with Android, what I learned about object oriented programming and having worked in projects using the Java language will be a huge plus.

What do you do in your time outside of Exaud?
I like to watch TV series and Anime, more of the latter since the episodes are normally shorter. I also spend a lot of my time gaming or reading news and articles related with that subject. I also like to hang out with friends and go to the gym (as software developers we sit at the computer all day, we really need to exercise).
